Mass Spectrometry Laboratory performs molecular weight measurement of peptides, proteins, oligonucleotides and other compounds in range of 100 Da – 60 kDa. To order such analysis you need to fill the analysis request form (http://mslab-ibb.pl/pl/formularze). Detailed information about your sample will greatly facilitate the analysis.

Routine molecular weight measurement is performed on a QTOF Premier mass spectrometer (Waters). In case high precision is required (about 1ppm), we offer a measurement with an LTQ Orbitrap Velos mass spectrometer (only organic molecules in the mass range of 100 - 1000 Da).

To improve the quality of measurement, high purity of sample is essential. For the measurement with electrospray ionization (ESI), proteins and other substances must be suspended in low ionic strength solution. Presence of such compounds as Tris, NaCl, KCl, urea, phosphates may render the analysis difficult or even impossible. The best results are received from proteins/peptides purified with HPLC (solution or pellet).

In case of a protein insoluble in low ionic strength solvent or buffer, we use volatile salts like ammonium carbonate or ammonium acetate. It is also possible to perform a molecular weight measurement using LC-MS separation on RP-18 resin. In this case the analysis will take additional 2 days.

Before you send your samples, please consider consulting the staff.

Estimated time of analysis is about 1-2 work days, counted from the date of sample delivery to the Lab.
